Homeopathy is one of the major components of Indian traditional system of medicine. This system is termed as AYUSH and it stands for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The government of India also encourages AYUSH by including them in various government hospitals and dispensaries.
Looking at the significant role of private sector in healthcare industry, the Government of India is also collaborating with private sector in form of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to promote AYUSH system of medicine.
Among all the traditional systems of medicine, Homeopathy is gaining great popularity. Looking at this scenario, government is also taking homeopathic education seriously. Currently, there are approximately 185 homeopathic medical colleges (UG) in India. The duration of UG course (BHMS) is 5 1/2 years. For Post graduate masters program (MD Homeopathy), there are 33 colleges across the country. PG course duration is 3 years and students can opt for any of the 7 specialties. There are two PG colleges that offer PG Homeopathy courses for foreigners.
Education facilities and infrastructure for Homeopathy have improved tremendously in last few decades. The number of colleges offering UG and PG on Homeopathy has increased and also the quality of education has improved a lot. There are some universities which are even offering Ph. D. in Homeopathy.
In order to take the studies and curriculum of Homeopathy courses to next level, it is being planned to introduce subjects like Biotechnology and Nanotechnology in its curriculum. This will help us in aligning our course with international standards. The demand for homeopathic education is increasing all over world. Since, our country has largest number of homeopathy colleges and teachers; the entire world is looking forward to India. At the same time India is also thriving to impart the best, most scientific and modern homeopathic education to Homeopathic aspirants all across the globe.
